We had an absolutely brilliant stay at the Causeway! What a beautiful, peaceful location with stunning scenery and views of the local wildlife. It was ideally located to drive to all the major visiting spots (Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr, Dinosaur Fossil Museum, Portree etc.) We had a lovely walk from the accommodation through Struan to Dun Beag Broch. Everything was exactly as described, very cosy, comfortable and spotless! Our hosts were friendly and welcoming, showing us around, offering advice about the local area whilst giving us privacy to settle in! We could not have had a better time, would love to come back.

We had a great week on Skye staying at The Causeway. The chalet was perfect for us – really peaceful with fantastic views through the big picture windows. It is really well equipped and a very comfortable place to be come rain or shine! The location on the island is ideal with easy access to all the beautiful scenery – Old Man of Storr, The Quiraing, Neist Point, Fairy Pools, Sligachan bridge etc.

What an amazing view! The location is in the country side, but still just 20-30 min drive to Portree, also short drive to the Fairy pools and hikes in the south. The apartment is impeccably clean and well stocked! Highly recommend.

Absolutely breathtaking chalet on the brink of Amar River, flowing out into the sea. Sip wine, look at the sunset and watch otters swim, fish jump and eagles and herons fly above you. I’ve travelled many places over 10 years and this is one of my favorites – no people, occasional car, and wonderful nature. If you want to explore Skye, this place is perfectly, centrally located, giving you easy access to all parts of the island for day trips. The chalet has everything you need – luxury bathroom and kitchen to cook your own food. Should it rain (count on it!) you can sit in comfortable decliners and watch nature do it’s thing through the panoramic windows. Both Peggy and Donald are natural born Skyelanders and have a lot of off the grid info about places to go and see. They will help you in any way they can and are easy to contact, as they live in the main house next door. I would highly recommend this place as your home away from home.

Map over attractions of Isle of Skye with The Causeway acoomodation centrally located

Central location to all attractions on Skye

The chalet is located in a small secluded bay with easy access to shopping 20 minutes away in Portree via a picturesque trip over the hills and perfectly placed for all the sights and trips the Misty Isle has to offer.

Most sights are between a 20-60 minute drive away, including Dunvegan Castle, Fairy Pools, Old Man Stoor, Talisker Distillery, The Cullins or the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant.

Within 10 minutes walking distance you find a café with bookshop called the Bog Myrtle (a Scottish wild flower) or The Crofter’s Bite, that offers hot food from their pop-up street van.

Get real close to wildlife

The Amar river and the flow of ebb and tide in Loch Baeg provide a rich feeding ground for all kinds of wildlfe to be seen from the comfort of the terrace.

An otter familiy is often seen hunting and playing in the waters straight in front of the chalet alongside various duck species, that hatch their eggs here. Golden eagles circle our property and even land on the terrace.

Similarly both oyster catchers and sand pipers have previously made their nests in the garden in front of the chalet, making this the perfect place to get close-up photos of Skye’s wildlife. Bring your binoculars or use the ones we provide.

Full ocean view of Loch Beag and the cliffs of Rubha nan Clach

Surrounded by nature

Start your day with stunning views of the 100 meter vertical cliffs of Rubha nan Clach and it’s lighthouse when you step out on the terrace.

In July and August the heather blooms and covers everything in wonderful purple, it’s just beautiful.

A short walk from the chalet lies the preserved ruin of The Dun Beag Broch, where you’ll walk in the footsteps of the early iron age settlers on Skye. From here you have a spectacular views of both mountain ranges of The Cuillins and Macleods Tables as well as Loch Braccadale.
